'Bride Wars' Inspired Bridal Shower Invitations

Bride Wars is one of my all-time favourite movies, and it's always a fun rewatch! Directed by Gary Winick, Bride Wars (2009) is a comedy film about friendship, rivalry, and the chaos of wedding planning gone wrong! There’s just something about how Liv and Emma’s personalities clash (and complement) that makes the film so charming and hilarious.
On a recent rewatch, something clicked: what if I let Liv and Emma inspire my next bridal shower invitation designs? Both characters are so distinctly themselves—Liv is bold and luxurious, while Emma is romantic and sentimental. So I let their fictional weddings become mood boards, and the results were so fun to create.
Here’s how two of my latest bridal shower invitation designs were shaped by two unforgettable movie brides.
Liv—Bold, Glamorous, and Luxe
For this Liv-inspired bridal shower invitation, I wanted to blend that same bold energy with timeless class:
A soft, linen-textured base layered on a Tiffany blue backing
Elegant jet black serif script that feels both refined and editorial
A clean, modern layout that nods to tradition while also staying current
Subtle glam through material and contrast—not sparkle
This design doesn’t shout—it speaks. It’s perfect for brides who love a little drama but want to keep things classy. The kind of invite that feels luxurious without being over-the-top.
Emma—Warm, Sentimental, and Romantic
For this Emma-inspired bridal shower invitation design, I leaned into a romantic summer garden aesthetic with a playful twist:
A warm butter yellow background with a subtle floral pattern layered in the backdrop
Illustrations of lilacs and ranunculus in fuchsia, yellow, and orange
Bright florals (a wink to the spray-tan scene!) and storybook charm
Garden-inspired, sentimental, and gently whimsical
This invitation feels like a sunlit afternoon in bloom—perfect for brides who love garden parties, and sentimental moments. It's for the bride who wants her guests to feel the love woven into every part of the day.
Letting Pop Culture Spark Creativity
Design inspiration can come from anywhere! But for me, tapping into characters that I've loved for so long (like Liv and Emma) reminded me just how much personality plays a role in visual storytelling. When you think about what a character would choose, it opens up new creative directions. The goal isn’t to copy them, but to let their personality inform the mood and details.
Rewatching Bride Wars with a designer’s eye helped me push my own aesthetic boundaries—and fall back in love with storytelling through stationery.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, your bridal shower invitation should reflect you. Whether you’re more of a Liv (dramatic and daring) or an Emma (classic and romantic), let your personality guide the design. It makes the moment feel more real—and more yours—from the very start.
What movie character would you want your bridal shower invite to be inspired by? Or if you're planning your own special day, let’s chat. I’d love to create something uniquely you—fictional inspo and all!
